August 2015 - May 2016
Research examined the role of thymic nurse cells (TNCs) on central tolerance mechanisms in lupus prone mice (NZB/NZW strain). The disease of study was lupus erythematosus. The technical skills I acquired during this rotation include (but not limited to) cell cultivation, microscopy (confocal laser scanning microscopy), immunohistochemistry assays, and diease modelling via BALB/c, NZB and NZW mice (surgery (thymectomy). retro-orbital bleeds, breeding, macrophage la vage)

In this lab rotation, I worked on the role of renin-angiotensin II in cardiovascular disease relative to the modulation of consuming a green-leafy vegetable diet using a murine model. During this time, I ran enzymatic assays to determine the amount of proteins found in murine liver and kidney tissue samples. The enzymatic assays were conducted at the Harrison School of Pharmacy, Auburn University in the lab of Dr. Maurali
